What We Believe

We are an independent Bible church that believes the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17; John 10:35). Thus, the Holy Scripture is used as the rule of faith and practice at MBC (Isaiah 8:20; 1 Tim. 4:1-5). We are independent, which means that we are not part of a larger denomination, although we do cooperate with other area churches, support several major missions, and are involved in a number of community ministries. At Maranatha, we believe the biblical teaching that each member of the Body of Christ is a minister, and each believer is vital to the proper function of the whole unit. Each member works for the good of the whole Body and functions as an active part of a living unit (Eph. 4:11-16; 1 Cor. 12; Rom. 12:4ff.).

"For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them."

Romans 12:4-6

What must one do to become a christian?

God is holy and will not allow sin into heaven (Isaiah 6; Psa. 99:9; Matt. 5:48).

Yet, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). We are all sinners.

But God made a way for us to spend eternity with Him in heaven. In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Only Jesus Christ can save you, give you eternal life and make you a Christian.

God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." He arose from the dead proving that He is God and that his sacrifice saves us. Romans 4:25

Jesus, God in the flesh, paid the entire price for our salvation when He shed His blood on the cross. 1 Peter 3:18 says, "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God."

Because of this payment Jesus made, salvation is a free gift to anyone who repents and trusts, in Christ.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." -John 3:16  "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
